Hi Everyone,
Happy Solstice! For those of you who prefer to read, I have included a slightly cleaned up transcript of the audio beneath the chart below.
The official time of the Solstice is June 20th, 10:42 PM EDT. That puts it in the early morning of the 21st for those living in Europe. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it is our Summer Solstice, which is what I called it, out of habit, in the video. But, for those living in the Southern Hemisphere, it is the Winter Solstice. Calling it the June Solstice is therefore a better reflection of everyone’s experience, so I will work to get in the habit of that.
The main theme in the video that I see is the energy of becoming the vessels that make it possible for humanity to realize its next level of incarnation. That is the invitation I see and each of us may be feeling clearer on our role. As we become more clear, we may also feel a desire to prepare ourselves to hold the piece we came to hold and embody. What that means will be unique for each of us, but I suspect it will feel more and more sacred and we will feel more and more humble and less and less driven by ego as we become more aware of our purpose and more able to embody it.
As always, we’ll know what these energies are truly about for us as we walk with them. For the Summer Solstice, that walk will be until the Fall Equinox. At that time, we can reflect on what this passage was for us.

[Edited for clarity]
Hi Everyone,
This is Ellen from Astrology Journal. I want to talk about the chart for the Summer [June] Solstice. The Summer [June] Solstice is June 20th, 2025 at 10:42 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. So I think that is what? 2:42 UK time on the 21st. So it is coming up today.
I'm recording this in the morning on June 20th. There are two yod patterns in this chart and those seem to be the most striking features. So, one yod pattern - it's these purple dotted lines. One of the yod patterns, this triangular shape - is pointing to Pluto. And one yod is pointing to Mars. That's really interesting from an evolutionary astrology perspective. Pluto in evolutionary astrology is the soul and the desires of the soul and Mars is the principle or the force that enacts the desires of the soul. So what's being highlighted in this chart is the relationship between the two and there is an inconjunct between the two - these two yods are interconnected by an inconjunct.
The inconjunct is the idea of making adjustments. I like to think of - making the metaphor or the analogy of - the suspension cables on a suspension bridge. They're constantly making adjustments so that the road doesn't collapse. So the adjustments are constant and for the purpose of ensuring that we can travel on that road. We could say that the purpose of the inconjunct is to keep us aligned so that we can continue to travel on our path through this lifetime.
So there's an injunct between Pluto the soul and the desires of the soul and Mars, our actions. There's a sense of we want to make adjustments continually by making adjustments to the actions that we take so that they are always in alignment with the desires of the soul.
Mars is in Virgo - over here in Virgo - and so it's not necessarily the most comfortable place for Mars. This is not a place where Mars is boldly stepping out into new realms and, you know, in some sort of overt fashion. This is a place - Virgo is a place - of apprenticeship. It's within the gibbous phase of the phase spaces that wrap around the wheel here. The Gibbus phase is itself about this idea of making adjustments.
I hadn't thought about this but the relationship between Pluto and Mars - this inconjunct between them - is actually a waning inconjunct not a waxing inconjunct and the waning inconjunct falls at 0 degrees of Scorpio - if you count out the degree distance of the waning inconjunct you land at 0 degrees Scorpio on the natural wheel. And that inconjunct has to do with this idea of making choices.
The waxing inconjunct falls at 0 degrees of Virgo - and Mars is in Virgo - and that is this idea of skill development and entering into practice.
So what do we do if we think about Virgo and Scorpio in terms of their natural sexile relationship? We get the idea of making choices about the practices that we choose to engage in. And as we engage in those practices we develop the discernment to make better choices. So there's this idea of practice and making choices and this kind of like reinforcing cycle. As we enter into the practice we become more aware - we're better vessels - Virgo, vessels - for spirit to channel through us. Or in this case for us to be able to enact the desires of the will - for us to better embody the desires of the will through our practices, through our actions in the world which have been honed through practice and skill development.
So the Summer Solstice chart will last until the Fall Equinox chart. So during this time period, the desires of the soul - spirit - can flow into these containers and ground here on earth and we can be better presenters or holders of this new energy of our souls - this energy of spirit. I'm not saying this very well right now. I apologize. But we can be better holders, better keepers of, perhaps, given the times, a higher intention for humanity.
Pluto is in Aquarius. So the desires of the soul, perhaps, is to move into a higher expression of the human potential. And so perhaps this time is to, you know, take, perhaps, the invitation, in these next few months, to take the time to really realign ourselves, pay attention to the actions we're taking - ask ourselves, are these actions in alignment with my soul? Are they in alignment with spirit? And just continually make adjustments and really learn what is our craft path. What is our practice path? What are the skills we are here to develop to bring into being - this higher dimension of humanity? We can't do it if we're not grounding our piece in that. And so, there's an opportunity for each of us to be grounding our piece in this.
So the Sabian symbol for Mars is two angels bringing protection. So that's a positive, right? As we - perhaps in the past - as we've taken action to realign or as we've tried to enter into skill practices or just practices to bring ourselves into better alignment with spirit - perhaps we experienced negative consequences and perhaps the energies this time around are supporting us and protecting us so that we can truly, you know, truly bring ourselves into alignment with this higher potential for humanity rather than having to either be punished for it or shrink away from it or something like that.
Punishment comes in when we look at both Pluto and Saturn. Saturn is the other anchor point of the yod that's pointing to Mars. So this idea of structure. And Aries is the life force. So structuring the containers that can contain the the life force - the new emergence or the emergence of this new humanity.
Remember that Saturn made a conjunction with Jupiter at 0 degrees of Aquarius. It's now in Aries. Saturn and Jupiter are the social structural planets for our society, you could say, and every 20 years they meet up and start a new 20-year cycle. So we're at the first quarter point of that new cycle. And Saturn is in Aries, the life force. Now it's about planting the seed of that new intention, that new cycle. And sort of starting to bring it into being.
[Edit: A better metaphor for the first quarter phase would be birthing the life form of the seed that was planted at the new phase. However, Saturn in Aries does also speak of the idea of planting the seeds.]
And Mars is saying in order to be able to do that, what we need to do is enter in - to create the practices and make a habit of the practices that allow us to continually bring ourselves back into alignment with spirit, with desire, with soul. And there is this idea of protection that this time around we're protected somehow, some way.
So Mars is in the first 10 degrees of Virgo and that's associated with the eight of pentacles which has to do with apprenticeships. This is according to Biddy Tarot: apprenticeships, repetitive tasks, mastery skill development. So that's sort of the bigger - Virgo is a bigger context and that's this idea of practice, skill development, purity, learning. It's our daily practices and what we practice day after day after day becomes our karma.
And interestingly, the South Node is in Virgo. The South Node represents our past. So, it's representing our past practices. Mars is just entering Virgo. They're in a waning, Balsamic relationship together, the South Node and Mars. So, it's this idea of ending an old cycle, but also beginning a new cycle. So, eventually Mars will catch up with the South Node and enter into a new two-year cycle. (It's about a two-year cycle with it, I believe.) And so, we'll begin...we're assessing perhaps the practices we've been doing and making discernments about those. Are those truly keeping me in alignment? Maybe they did before, but they're not now. Or maybe the alignment was survival and safety and that took me out of alignment with my authentic self.
We can think of Aquarius as having something to do with our authentic self. And so now we have the protection to be able to start questioning that and to be able to start shifting so that we can bring ourselves into a better alignment with who we are as we also experience the old patterns - like becoming aware of those old patterns and by becoming aware of them, starting to see them or feel them fall away. And then that fits with the larger perspective of the gibbous phase also. I think of gibbous phase and Virgo as almost like the same archetype.
And then within that is the the decan, which is the first decan, so the apprenticeship, repetitive tasks, etc. And then, within that, is where Mars specifically is - two angels bringing protection. That's according to James Burgess. So I think that's sort of what this is about.
We've been looking at Pluto - its decan and Sabian symbol for some time now. So the decan is the five of swords. It's Aquarius 1 - the five of swords - which has to do with this idea of conflict, disagreements, competition, defeat, winning at all costs. So you could say that's what we're moving through to reconcile you could say. And I say that because Pluto at three degrees, the Sabian symbol is a Hindu healer.
So it's really about going down into the murk and the muck of this old pattern of conflicts and starting to see those and starting to clear those, starting to reckon with those, starting to... how are they playing out in us? In this case with the these two yods, what are the old practices that gave rise to those? How do we resolve those old conflicts so that we can give rise to new practices? Something like that.
And then the larger context which I actually haven't talked about is the last quarter phase. So the last quarter phase is this idea of scarcity in the Northern Hemisphere. It has to do with winter. So when the the life force is withdrawn and it is a time, you could say, of challenge where we get to see how far we've come in terms of our practices. How well aligned are we if we go through this scarce period and we experience deprivation that we can't counter, that we can't adapt to in positive ways. Instead we are faced with survival, or the experience of survival, or desperation that tells us - that gives us information that we've been out of alignment and the opportunity to start asking where did we fall out of alignment and why did that happen?
The why for me is...I find it hard to heal until I've understood the why. Maybe not everybody has to go through that loop. But, for me, that's helpful. And then also the where and the why. And then we can also ask the how. How do we shift this? What do we - we can ask the what - what do we need that will help us to shift this?
So Pluto is in a time of scarcity. Again, I speak from the Northern Hemisphere, a Northern Hemisphere perspective because that's what I know. If you live in the Southern Hemisphere, it's a associated - this fourth quarter phase is associated with summer. And I don't know how to read Capricorn from that perspective. But I have every confidence that there is a very helpful and insightful way to read it from that perspective. But because I don't live there, it's hard for me to wrap my brain around. So, I'd have to listen to people who live in the Southern Hemisphere who've made these connections to understand what that is.
So, again, this idea of scarcity, that's sort of the bigger container. And then Aquarius I, the decan, that's the idea of conflict, disagreements, competition, defeat, etc. So that's within that scarcity, we get the idea of well, the habit, perhaps, of conflict has led to the scarcity. We think it leads to victory if we happen to be the winners, but in fact, even for the victors, we could say it actually leads to depletion and scarcity over time. Maybe for a short term, we experience a superficial abundance. But, over time, we all lose out, including the winners when we're engaging in a pattern of conflict and disagreements in toxic, unhealthy ways.
And then within that, Pluto at three degrees of Aquarius - 3/4 Aquarius is a Hindu healer - we're healing these patterns. And in healing these patterns, we can start to enter into new practices and start to discern new practices that will be better for us, that will allow us, that will be in support of who we are rather than antagonistic to who we are because we're forced to prioritize survival over authenticity, over who we really are, over what will truly serve - Virgo - serve humanity as a whole.
And that's what we're going for now as humanity. That's the shift that we're in. How do we all enter into who we really are and the practices and the skills that we have to bring forward in the roles and spaces we occupy and really truly occupying those so that we can all, as a collective humanity, together work, you know, sort of help humanity to raise to its next higher vibration.
That's what I believe this shift is about.
So, those are my thoughts about the summer solstice. I'll leave it there. I hope there was something helpful for you, and I look forward to coming back with my my next chart reading, which will probably be the New Moon reading.
Okay, take care. Bye.
